What to look for
Questions worth asking any business software developer before you buy.
Works when the internet or power drops
Ask whether billing keeps working offline and syncs later, and how data is backed up.
Sinhala and Tamil
Check the languages for screens, printed receipts and invoices, not only the website.
The hardware you already have
Receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers and scales: ask for a list of supported models.
Local payments and tax
Card, LankaQR and bank transfer recording, and invoices with your business and VAT details if you’re registered.
Support you can reach
Hours, phone or WhatsApp, and whether someone can set it up on site.
Your data stays yours
You should be able to export sales, stock and customer lists if you change systems.
Common questions
What is a POS system?
A point-of-sale (POS) system records sales at the counter: it prices items, takes payment, prints or sends a receipt and updates stock. Most also report daily sales and profit. Business listings on AppKade say which platforms they run on (web, Windows, Android and so on) and whether they work offline.
Cloud or installed software: which is better for a small shop?
Cloud (web) systems can be used from any device and back up automatically, but need a working internet connection unless they have an offline mode. Installed software runs on one computer without internet, but you look after backups. Many shops in Sri Lanka choose a cloud system with offline billing.
How do I buy software listed on AppKade?
Each listing links to the developer’s own site and has a contact form. You agree plans, payment and support with the developer directly; AppKade doesn’t take payments or commission.
Can I try before I pay?
Many developers offer a demo or free trial; listings that do show a Free trial label or a Try demo button. You can also ask the developer for a demo through the listing.
